Johann Joachim Quantz short biography

A distinguished German flutist, composer and teacher, Johann Joachim Quantz learned to play several music instruments at a very early age. In 1728, Quantz became a private teacher of Prince Frederick. In 1741, Quantz was appointed the chamber musician, court composer and director of palace concerts in Berlin and Potsdam. Quantz invented and added the second key to the flute as well as the sliding tuning device. Composing mainly for the flute, Quantz wrote over 300 concertos and 200 solos, duets, trios, and quartets.
